Arco Arena 1 - Opened in 1985 and still standing, but no longer configured as an arena. Known as "the MADHOUSE on Market Street," Sacramento Sports Arena 1985, Arco Arena I 1985 - 1988.
Location - 1625 N. Market Blvd. Sacramento, California
The Kansas CIty-Omaha Kings of the NBA relocated to Sacramento in 1985. While waiting for Arco Arena II to be built, they played literally in a warehouse / office building, makeshift arena. The Arco Arena is about 4 miles north of downtown Sacramento. The Kings played here for 3 seasons and sold out every home game at the small intimate venue. Seating capacity was a very small 10,333. It was dubbed "the madhouse on Market Street." Once the Kings relocated 5 blocks west to the new Arco Arena, the building was used by Sprint communications. Since 2005, the building has been used by the California Department of Consumer Affairs. Driving by the building today, you would never suspect it housed pro basketball in Sacramento. It had a short but very LOUD history as an NBA arena.
December of 1992, and you can see the former arena was used by Sprint. 12/92
